Go green

Go green

Going green is big. We’re all becoming more and more aware of the impact we have on our environment, what our carbon footprint says about us and how much single-use plastic we go through every day. So why not do it also on your wedding day? I mean why not try a lettuce-only menu, wear a drab recycled dress and use carrots as décor. You will have a marvellous time, save a load of cash and do your bid in saving the world. Just kidding…eco weddings are nothing like that. In fact, with the fashion, food, graphic design and consequently wedding industry becoming more nature-friendly, the options for having the wedding day of your dreams and still be conscious about its cost to the environment are endless. And as you will see, there are some cool things you can do when going green which will not only help your wedding be environment-friendly but will make your big day even more memorable. And besides, who doesn’t want to feel like a cool eco warrior every now and then Granted, there are much bigger issues in the world in terms of pollution, nature preservation and countering global warming than whether or not your wedding is green, but I think that every little bit counts. So, have a look at the three points below which may help you get started on your journey of planning an eco-friendly wedding day: 1. CHOOSE THE VENUE Many of our couples have a preferred type of venue they dream of or at least a location where they would like to exchange their wedding vows. While...
What’s in for 2019

What’s in for 2019

Hello there and welcome to the 2019 wedding trends. Now, you probably thought that you will find all sorts of information on what colours will be all the rage this coming wedding season, which are the “in” locations and what style of wedding dress will get you in line with the fashionable crowd….and I promise, we will get to that in coming posts. But today I wanted to write about three wedding trends that won’t go out of fashion. Ever. Because whatever the year, season or style of your wedding, these three points will help you have the wedding you will remember for the rest of your life. IT’S ABOUT THE PEOPLE It’s easy to get carried away by all the excitement and glamour of planning a wedding and become so immersed in choosing the venue, deciding on the flowers and finalising the menus that you forget about why you’re really doing it in the first place. While I believe it’s essential to have a wedding planner in order to have a care-free wedding, I also think that it’s the planner’s job to make sure you experience the excitement of those special moments with those you love the most.  What is a visit to a beautifully arranged flower shop without your mum who adores blooms or venue viewing without your special someone you can enjoy taking in beautiful surroundings with? The moments you spend together planning your wedding will be the ones you look back to just as fondly as your actual wedding day. Make a mini getaway of it and stay overnight in the area, exploring local cuisine...
Top 6 First Dance Songs

Top 6 First Dance Songs

We all know that the first dance is one of the highlights of any wedding. In one of the previous posts (click here) we discussed how to choose your perfect song and what are the don’ts to watch out for when making that all important choice (awkward lyrics anyone?) and even though the song should be meaningful for you, here is a list of our top 6 at the moment: CAN’T TAKE MY EYES OFF YOU – while the original by The Four Seasons is cute, there are beautiful covers out there that sound more romantic and suitable for the first dance. Listen to Craymer’s version here or if a proper dancing song you can foxtrot to is what you’re after, check out this cover by DJ ICE ENDLESS LOVE – forgive this total cliché, but we just can’t help ourselves. Lionel Richie & Diana Ross will melt any heart with this beautiful balad Rock gods The Calling are probably not the first band which springs to mind when thinking about you first dance but the cover of their cult song WHEREVER YOU WILL GO by Charlene Soraia is one of the most beautiful songs of all time (listen to it here) We would get booed if we didn’t add some Ed to our list. His beautiful PERFECT is a new classic in the making and while sometimes the most obvious choice may be the best one why not listen to this version by the brilliant Emma Heester & KHS Because there really is no rule that says your first dance needs to be a slow ballad we...

3 Tips for Choosing Your First Dance Song

3 Tips for Choosing Your First Dance Song

The newlyweds’ first dance is surely one of the highlights of every wedding, both for the happy couple and the wedding guests. Selecting the right song will set the right mood and while the music selection should be personal and meaningful for you, there are some little tips to keep in mind. TEMPO Not everyone is a fan of slow, dreamy songs and there is nothing wrong with passing on a ballad in favour of a more upbeat song. However, don’t forget what you’ll be wearing for your wedding as long, princess wedding dresses and Salsa moves usually don’t mix very well. Unless you’ll be changing into a more informal dress for your party, try sticking to moderate speed of music. WHAT DANCE IS IT AGAIN? Often, couples walk into a dance school, wanting the teacher to choreograph a beautiful Waltz choreography to an equally beautiful song which…well, is not a Waltz. If you’re not a dancer or musician, details of your chosen number being a 3/4 or 4/4 time signature probably hold the same meaning as a sentence in Chinese, but there are certain requirements for a piece of music to qualify as a Waltz, Foxtrot or Rumba. The easiest way to overcome this little problem? Don’t worry about what type of dance you want to do, present the teacher with your chosen track and let them create a suitable dance for you. LYRICS! While there really is nobody who can tell you what you should or shouldn’t do on your wedding, some attention to the actual meaning of the song you chose might be a good idea...
